(meet at the Gazebo near the 9/11 Overlook Memorial) Bring your sunscreen, lunch and curiosity, as well as a blanket or folding chair. What are the Haftarot? A study of the prophets as read in synagogue. What is a haftarah, and why do we read it? Join Rabbi Tobin on Thursdays in July at Eagle Rock Reservation for our annual Torah in the Park series. This year we will explore how a reading from the prophets becomes a haftarah in synagogue. By better understanding the haftarot in their original context, we can understand the often surprising or radical changes in their interpretation that results from excerpting segments to become a later haftarah. -
